We own 11 hectares of vineyards in Briones, Rioja Alta. The oldest vines are now over 70 years-old, and the rest were planted between 1985 and 1990 on the skirts of the historical slopes of Valpierre, at an altitude of 550 metres, facing Southeast and East. Calcareous and clay soils, plus leaning slopes, provide a great drainage for the land. All the vineyards are grown in not too fertile soils, perfect for reaching well-structured grapes. The vines, planted on bush and on wire, are of Tempranillo variety.
Our aim is to create wines which reflect the terroir of our vineyards. Everything is studied and planned at our estate: all the fertilizers and treatments are nature friendly, and we obtain very low yielding (under 6,000 Kg. per hectare).
Our climate helps as well. Being an Atlantic-influenced land, Rioja Alta is protected from excessive rain storms by the natural walls of the mountain ranges of Cantabria and La Demanda. Every evening we receive the cool air which refreshes the vines and keeps the acidity in the grapes -essential when you want to have a balanced wine.
